The Summoning of Everyman

Medieval Stage Play Recognized as Masterpiece Coming to DC

Edge of the Universe Players 2 Brings Emotional, Hilarious and Thought-provoking Script from 1470 Back to Life

Performances: November 1-24, 2013

Washington, DC During the month of November, The Edge of the Universe Players 2 will bring the medieval play The Summoning of Everyman to Washington, DC theatergoers. The play, directed by Stephen Jarrett of greater Washington, DC, features the characters Death, God, Everyman, and many others. David Elias of greater Washington is cast in the lead role of “Everyman” in this 15th century work that has roots as early as the 2nd to 4th centuries.

The Edge of the Universe Players 2 Inc., wanted to bring Everyman to Washington partly because Everyman raises important—and still relevant–questions about society and the individual. According to the theatre company, this play illustrates major aspects of life and human feelings that are the essentially the same now as they were 500 years ago.  Those aspects include religious, social, and political concerns.

Jarrett intends to portray a medieval troupe arriving, unpacking, preparing for, and of course enacting the play. Jarrett also plans interludes of music and dance.
